Using EasyGPS, Magellan SporTrack and Memory Map in conjunction.

Suppose you have a GPS route you wish to share with other GPS users, how do you do it?
There are 6 considerations
  • What make & model GPS do you have
  • What make & model GPS does the intended recipient have
  • What GPS software do you have
  • What GPS software does the intended recipient have
  • Is the route you intend to share in the format of your mapping product
  • Is the route you intend to share in the GPS
These compatibility problems can be resolved by converting the files to .GPX format.
This does require that sender and recipient both have EasyGPS.
Unfortunately the process does require a config change on the GPS. The setup used by EasyGPS and Memory Map are different. You will need to change the settings on the SporTrack whenever you swap between one program and the other.

Specifically, this is what you have to change:

To connect to Memory Map set GPS to:
Menu>Setup>NMEA>V2.1GSA

To connect to EasyGPS set GPS to:
Menu>Setup>NMEA>None

Publishing a GPS route
Taking a route from MemoryMap is the most complicated of the tasks

  • Start up MemoryMap software
  • Upload the route into the GPS
  • Close MemoryMap software
  • Start EasyGPS
  • Recieve route from GPS
  • Edit waypoints if required
  • Save route as .GPX file
You can now publish/share this route by email or on the web, anyone using any software that understands GPX file formats can view it, anyone with a program that understands .GPX and has a communications link with a GPS can transfer the route into their GPS.
Importing a GPX route into MemoryMap software requires that the route is uploaded to the GPS using EasyGPS then downloaded into MemoryMap.
Publishing a route you recorded on your GPS just needs the final 4 steps of the process above.
